When my family took vacations on Washington Island every July, I would bring along my guitar and we’d have a sing-along one night. Before we moved to Portland, Oregon, in June of 1982, I wanted to leave some of those songs behind for my family to listen to in my absence. So, late one night to avoid distracting traffic noise, I set up a boom box and filled a 90-minute cassette tape. When we left, I gave it to one of my sisters and asked her to play it on the island.
Although I paused between the songs, each song had to be done in a single take. I had no computer or any editing equipment to use. There are some distortions in the very old recording, so please bear with them.
This song, “Good Night” from the White Album by the Beatles, was the final song on the tape. Be sure to listen all the way to the end. The final 10 seconds were added later to give it a special ending.
