Crazy Music on My Mind
I have a radio stuck in my head; it's been there for years. I'm not sure
what brand it is but it still works quite well despite its age. The
mysterious part is that I don't know who turns it on or off and I don't know who
selects the station (it's usually an oldies station). All I know is that
most days it starts playing shortly after I wake up.
The reason I'm writing this is because yesterday morning it wasn't playing your
typical oldies station -- it found a station that was playing old crazy novelty
songs. The first song that came on was -- get this -- "Tie Me
Kangaroo Down Sport." If you're too young (like less than 50
years old) to remember this classic tune,
I found
this version on YouTube that you might like.
That song initiated an entire barrage of crazy novelty songs. Pretty soon
I was being serenaded by such classics as:
I'm sure that there are plenty more of these types of songs. As I write
this I can think of:
- Splish, Splash, I Was Taking a Bath,
- The Monster Mash, and
- They're Coming to take Me Away.
Fortunately, none of these songs were playing in my head yesterday. This
morning I woke up to "You are the Sunshine of My Life." (Thank, heavens!)
That's much better than "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport."
(Maybe I should have entitled this "Music on My Crazy
Mind.")
