Photography
One of the nice things about retirement is not having to go to work in the
morning. Nicer still is having the time to delve more deeply into interests that
have been sitting on the shelf for years. As many people know, in addition to
traveling, camping, hiking, eating Italian food, making inane remarks, reading,
listening to music, hugging my wife, singing, and playing my guitars,
photography has been one of my interests for a long time.
Taking pictures is quite fun. Having a camera around my neck makes me open my
eyes wider and look around more intently. It makes me want to know and
understand a place. But taking pictures -- looking through the viewfinder and
pressing the shutter button -- is only the start; photography is much more than
that. When I think I've captured a good image, deciding how I want to crop
it, print it, and mount it are also important tasks.
When I finally have a photograph that I like; then what? People who
write stories or paint pictures don't want to put them in a box or stick them in
a closet, they want to share them. In some ways we're just like little
kids hollering, "Hey, Mom, look what I made!" When I have a photograph
that I like I want to show it to my family and friends. Although I have
quite a few photographs hanging on the walls in our house, space is limited and
not everyone can easily get here to see them.
Last winter I decided to create a separate website for my photographs. I know
I should be facebooking, myspacing, or twittering about this, but I opted for an
old-fashioned website like our forefathers used way back in the 20th century.
There's no special significance to this other than it provides with an
additional way to share my photography. If you're interested, it's called
and you can find it at
http://www.andersonviewpoint.com.
Please let me know what you think.
