Signs of the Times
I haven't written anything in a long time. The Super Bowl was Super
because the Packers won. Then I started to move everything from one
computer to another and that took much longer than I had expected. And,
finally, Wisconsin's new rightwing nitwit Governor, Scott Walker, started
implementing his plan to balance the budget. One of his important tools
for doing that is outlawing collective bargaining for all public employees
(except for firefighters and police). He's also cutting funding for public
education. But, don't worry, he's already given tax breaks to corporations
and plans to spend more money on highways. You can practically hear the
new jobs poring into the state right now!
I can't write much more because it's too depressing. The good news is that
thousands and thousands of people have shown up at the Capitol to protest.
About two weeks ago the crowd was about 75,000. Last weekend it was closer
to 100,000. I'll let the signs from the protest speak for themselves.
Maybe we'll be lucky enough to recall some of the crazy conservatives and return
some sanity to the state.
