Back to the Northwest (Page 2/4)
[May
13, 2009] We woke up to a bright sunny blue sky over a sparkling white
mountain. The window in our room looked right out at Mt. Hood. We
had a difficult time getting away from that window long enough to dress and get
ready to go down for breakfast. The windows in the restaurant looked south
along the Cascades where Mt. Jefferson and the Three Sisters could be seen in
the distance. After breakfast we walked outside, circling the Lodge in the
fresh snow and enjoying the winter scenery. The trails had already been groomed and a few skiers and snow
boarders were enjoying the nearly unoccupied slopes. A photo shoot was
taking place for a company named
Vera Bradley so there were models wearing plenty of make-up and fancy
clothes walking around pretending to be skiers.
 As
the morning pushed towards noon the sky began to turn gray. It started to
snow again in the afternoon. After lunch we stayed inside and took a very
leisurely tour of the Lodge. The craftsmanship in stone, wood, and iron
along with the handmade fabrics and art make
this building truly amazing. The Lodge was built during the depression by the
Works Progress Administration and is a real monument to
what can be accomplished during difficult times.

Before we went to dinner we decided to try out the hot tub. Much to our
surprise another couple was in the tub. After the woman left the man dove
into the pool and started to swim laps. They were obviously crazier than
we were. We just went out and jumped into the hot water. It was very
easy getting in but very, very difficult getting out!
