Back to the Northwest (Page 4/4)

[May 17, 2009] We left Seattle today and headed to Portland to visit some old friends, co-workers, and neighbors.  On the way we made our last "tourist" stop in Tacoma, where we visited the Museum of Glass.  Visited is probably not the best word since we didn't pay to go inside.  We did, however, spend quite a bit of time walking over and admiring the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, a 500-foot-long pedestrian overpass that links the Museum to downtown Tacoma.  This amazing display of some of the work of Dale Chihuly is alone worth a trip to Tacoma.

When we finally arrived in Portland it was about 90 degrees; quite a change from the weather at Timberline Lodge.  It was nice to have a warm welcome from some friends, where we had a nice walk, good food, good wine, and a comfortable place to rest for the night.

[May 18, 2009] We made a trip to our old bank today where we finally emptied our safe-deposit box.  We left it behind when we moved because I had forgotten to get the keys before the movers took the dresser where were stored.  Then Kathy had lunch with a friend while I joined some former co-workers for lunch.

[May 19, 2009] This afternoon we got together with many of our old neighbors.  It was great to see them again.  We had lived in that neighborhood for 18 years and had grown close to these people and missing them was the hardest part of our move to Wisconsin.

[May 20, 2009] After one last visit with some neighbors we headed off to the airport.  The return flights were on time and went well.  By midnight we were back home.  The time went much too quickly but we had a great time seeing the beautiful Northwest and visiting with old friends.
